Apple Countersues Qualcomm

Apple considers that Qualcomm charges excessive licensing fees for its patents by requesting a percentage of an iPhone’s entire value, and not the value of the component that implements the patented inventions.

The value of a patent with the right licensing strategy may far exceed even the value of components that implement the invention.

Apple countered by finding battery saving patents it owns that are infringed by Qualcomms Snapdragon 820 Mobile platform with X12 LTE.

This illustrates that the value of a patent portfolio may be defensive.
